Prep + Aftercare
PREP
24-48 Hours Before Your Appointment
Shower and exfoliate thoroughly: Use an oil-free scrub or mitt to remove dead skin. Focus on dry areas (elbows, knees, ankles). Ideally, shower 24 hours before your appointment. If you need to shower the same day as your appointment, aim for at least 4 hours prior and stick to cool or lukewarm water. Avoid Dove body wash and harsh bar soaps. Sulfate free products are recommended.
Shave or wax: Complete any hair removal at least 24-48 hours before your appointment.
Day of Your Appointment
Arrive with clean, product-free skin: No lotion, oils, deodorant, perfume, or makeup. These can block the tan from developing evenly.
Wear dark, loose Clothing: Think oversized, cozy, and zero tight straps-long, loose pants, long sleeve t-shirt/sweatshirt, flip flops or slides. Avoid bras and tight fitting clothes after your tan.
AFTERCARE
Remain dry for at least 12 Hours (2–8 hours for rapid formulas): Avoid all moisture including sweating, swimming, and showering until your initial rinse. Staying completely dry helps your tan to develop evenly.
First rinse: Quick, lukewarm water only – No soap, scrubbing, or shaving.
Pat dry – Never rub with your towel.
Moisturize daily – Use a gentle lotion that doesn’t contain mineral oil 1-2 times a day.
Go easy on exfoliants – Products with sulfates, retinols, AHAs, and physical exfoliators like loofahs and washcloths can cause your tan to fade faster. If you use any of these regularly, just know they may shorten the life of your spray tan.
TIPS
Plan ahead: For weddings, we recommend booking your tan 2 days before the big day. For all other events, aim for 1–2 days prior to ensure your color is fully developed.
Beauty services: Complete all other beauty services (nails, waxing, facials, massages, etc) before your tan.
Sunburns, sun exposure, and chemical peels can all impact your spray tan.
If your skin is peeling—whether from a sunburn, retinol, or a chemical peel, your tan will not develop evenly and can fade prematurely. For the best results, wait until your skin has fully healed and stopped peeling before booking your appointment.
