FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How should I prepare for my spray tan?

To get the most out of your tan, shower, shave, and exfoliate thoroughly the night before your appointment and come with clean, dry skin. If you need to shower the same day as your appointment, try to shower at least 4 hours before and use cool or lukewarm water. Do not use Dove, Olay, or any bar soaps before your spray tan — they leave behind a residue that can interfere with how your tan develops and wears. Avoid lotions, oils, deodorants, and makeup the day of your session as they can create a barrier and affect your results.

How many days before an event should I schedule my spray tan?

The best time to get your spray tan is 1–2 days before your event.

When should I get a manicure, pedicure or other beauty services done?

Waxing, manicures, pedicures, facials, massages, and other beauty services should be done at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. A spray tan should always be last on your list of beauty appointments.

What should I wear to my appointment and during it?

Please wear long, dark, loose-fitting clothing. Flip flops or loose socks with slides/slip on shoes are ideal. Skip the leggings, tight bras, or anything that could rub your tan while it’s developing. You can tan in as much or as little as you’re comfortable with. You can wear a bathing suit, underwear and/or bra or go nude. Just keep in mind that the thickness and pattern of your underwear line or bra strap will be what your tan line will look like. Men must wear boxers, briefs, or shorts.

When can I shower after my tan?

It depends on the solution you choose.

Signature Tan: Rinse in 10–12 hours.
Express Tan: Rinse in 2–8 hours, depending on your desired depth of color.
Your artist will guide you on what’s best for your skin and goals.

First Rinse: Take a short, quick shower with lukewarm water and use your hand to guide the bronzer off. Rinse until the water runs clear. You can use soap where necessary, but don’t use all over the body.
Avoid the wrong soaps: No Dove, Olay, or bar soaps — they leave behind residue that can strip or streak your tan. We prefer gentle, sulfate-free shower gels, such as Method or Native brands.
Pat dry: After rinsing, gently pat yourself dry with a towel. Don’t rub!
Moisturize daily: After your first rinse, begin to moisturize daily with a lotion free of mineral oil to extend the life of your tan and keep it looking even. Avoid products with exfoliants and mineral oil, and Dove and Olay products. Also, avoid acne products and retinol. If you use any of these regularly, just know they may shorten the life of your spray tan.

How long does a spray tan last?

A spray tan will typically last 5-7 days with proper preparation and following the aftercare instructions. Your tan may last longer if you take extra good care of your skin. Hydration is key! Moisturize daily and avoid harsh scrubs or long soaks in hot water to extend your tan.

Will a spray tan protect me from the sun?

Nope — spray tan solutions contain zero SPF, therefore, they do not provide any protection from UV rays. While your skin may look sun kissed, it can still burn when exposed. It’s easy to feel a false sense of security with a fresh tan, but don’t skip the SPF. Always protect your skin with sunscreen when spending time outdoors. If you need SPF recommendations, please ask!

Can I go swimming or in the ocean with my tan?

Yes, you can. However, salt, chlorine and other pool/hot tub chemicals will cause your tan to fade quicker. When you are done swimming, rinse off and moisturize with lotion right after. This helps it not fade as fast.

Will the spray tan come off on my clothes or sheets?

We recommend that you wear long, loose-fitting, darker clothes after your spray tan. If the bronzer does transfer to clothes or sheets, it is water-soluble and should come out in the wash.

Can I get a spray tan while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Spray tanning is generally considered safe during pregnancy, but always consult your doctor first! We do offer nose filters and ventilation for added safety. For breastfeeding, we suggest wearing a top or covering the chest during your tan.
